Hey, nonprofits! Want a chance to get additional funding with minimal effort? Then we’ve got the fundraising event of the year for you! (All net proceeds from this event go to area nonprofits who have applied to participate.)

Type: Walk, Run & Ride (bike or motorcycle) event

Deadline to apply:

Which nonprofits can participate?:

Any Maine non-profit of any size can apply to participate (Maine based or have offices in Maine). All Maine nonprofits are accepted once the simple application is filled out.

What classifies as a nonprofit?  We will accept any applications from the 27 types of nonprofit classifications that the IRS recognizes. Including those organizations with fiscal sponsors. So no, this event is not just for 501(c)3s, but all nonprofits!

What’s expected of the nonprofits in order to participate?:

You’ll need to rally as many participants as you can muster to take part in the event.  Each participant gets a vote for a nonprofit for their registration, so getting as many registrants as possible will be crucial as those nonprofits with the most votes, WIN!  That’s it.

Why would a nonprofit want to participate?:

Nonprofits who receive a minimum of 50 votes will automatically receive $500.  See “How do nonprofits get votes?” below.

Cash prizes might be in these amounts: 1st place: $10,000, 2nd place: $5,000, 3rd place: $2,500, 4th place: $1,500, and 5th place: $750.  But will be (after minimum participation amounts are given):  1st – 50% net proceeds, 2nd – 25% of net proceeds, 3rd – 13% of net proceeds, 4th – 8% of net proceeds and 5th – 4% of net proceeds. *After expenses and if the minimum of 50 votes is achieved.

How does a nonprofit win the additional cash prizes?:

Simple. The 5 nonprofits with the most votes over 50 votes win!

(1st place receives the most votes, 2nd place receives the 2nd most votes, 3rd place receives the 3rd most votes, 4th place receives the 4th most votes, 5th place receives the 5th most votes.) *After expenses and if the minimum of 50 votes is achieved.

How do nonprofits get votes?

  1. Each registrant has a vote which they cast when they register for the event.  Those registrants who vote “undecided” can vote on event day upon checking in.
  2. For each additional $25 dollars raised by participants (beyond the registration cost), they’ll receive another vote for their selected nonprofit from registration.
  3. Sponsors get votes based on their package level.
  4. A nonprofit that attracts a sponsor gets 2x the votes in the sponsor’s package.

There is no need to do a special fundraiser to try to solicit funds from various donors. Encourage your base to sign up and participate on behalf of your nonprofit. Go beyond your base and get the general public to participate too. Make everyone aware of your brand and that doing this event will help your bottom line so your nonprofit can thrive. You’ll want to sign up early to get your name on the list.  There will even be participants who register and will not have favorited any nonprofit and could vote for yours. Show us what you’re nonprofit is all about!
